TS2 Extender

A mod that greatly expands The Sims 2 by fixing several issues, implementing new features, enhancing modding support and tweaks.

Tested to work with the Steam version of Legacy Collection and The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection.

Features

  • Skip intro videos, play in native borderless.
  • Adds completely new Lua functionality for modders, and a text Lua script loader for easier modding.
  • Allows use of separate top/bottoms for all clothing categories if you have appropriate CC.
  • Configurable UI scaling for Legacy Collection.
  • Allows editing personality in Create-A-Sim without refreshing their zodiac sign.
  • And more.

Fixes

  • Fixes a Maxis oversight that caused pink flashing on 64 bit computers. Thanks to @spockthewok for discovering this.
  • Fixes poor performance in the makeup/accessories/overlays section in Create-A-Sim.
  • Fixes the game's random number generator, solving Firstborn Syndrome and other random number quirks.
  • Fixes Open For Business uniforms messing up employee's faces.
  • Fixes broken date stood up timer.
  • Fixes aging and other timed events randomly breaking permanently in saves.
  • Fixes broken wall cutaway textures.
  • Fixes broken shadows, lighting, and more.

Lua Features

Check out the Documentation if you're interested in the new features for Lua script modding. You can do a lot more now!

Installation

  • Firstly, download the appropriate latest version from the releases tab. If you're on Legacy, download the "TS2.Extender.x.x.x.LC.zip" file, otherwise get the "TS2.Extender.x.x.x.UC.zip" file.
  • Extract the zip. Inside you will find "TSBin", "Documents", and "TSData" folders.
  • The "TSBin" and "TSData" folders go into your game's installation directory -> EP9, overriding the folders that are already there. Example: "E:\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 2 Legacy Collection\EP9"
  • Note: If you're on UC/Retail and already have an ASI Loader, because you already use .asi mods, you should skip copying the "TSBin/dsound.dll" file.
  • Note: If you had a version of TS2 Extender already installed older than 0.8.0, you might have a Lua folder in TSBin. Remove it, as this folder now lives in the Documents folder below.
  • The contents of the "Documents" folder go into your "Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 (Legacy/Ultimate Collection)" folder. Make sure custom content is enabled in your in-game settings.
  • If everything went well, you should have the new features in your game, the splash screen, and you will also have a new cheat command: "ts2extender", which will tell you the current TS2 Extender version (Cheat console can be opened with Shift+Control+C) : image
  • In case a feature doesn't work correctly, you will see helpful logs if you enable the "Console" feature in the TS2Extender .ini.

On Wine/Linux

On Wine, the installation is the same, minus an extra step to configure the ASI loader proxy:

  • In winecfg, select the "Libraries" tab. Under the "New override for library" dropdown, select wininet if on LC, or dsound if on UC and click "Add"

The mod can be configured via the .ini file.

Troubleshooting

If the mod doesn't work on Legacy Collection, try deleting the "wininet.dll" file from TSBin, instead putting in the "winmm.dll" file from here (winmm.dll under Win32, latest release) If it now works, keep the "winmm.dll" file in your TSBin and make sure the "wininet.dll" file is always removed if you download an update.

Antiviruses might flag the contents of the "TSBin" folder, most specifically the .asi file. It's recommended to add an exception to your "TSBin" folder to ensure the mod works and isn't blocked by AV software.
